WARPCON is Ireland's Largest student run convention and one of the longest running in Ireland. We are now in our 26th year and are still going strong. Warpcon is the annual gaming convention organised by University College Cork's Wargaming and Roleplaying Society (WARPS). WARPS is one of the largest and most active societies in the university and has been awarded the prize of UCC Society of the Year three times since its founding eighteen years ago. Warpcon itself has won the UCC Societies Guild Best Society Event three times, and recently Warpcon became the only games convention to win the coveted Best Society Event, as awarded by BICS, the Board of Irish College Societies. In 2006 Warpcon jointly won the Diana Jones Award for Excellence in Gaming for the charity held every year which have raised over one hundred thousand euro in the last decade. We are a non-profit, purely voluntary games organisation, and as such our main priority is to ensure the best possible time is had by all delegates and trade representatives alike.
The original concept for Warpcon was as a gaming convention run by gamers for gamers, and so it was created in a little room on campus in 1990 with an attendance of only forty people. Since then the word has spread and each year the event, attendance and venue have gotten bigger and better. At Warpcon VI, the convention found its new home in UCC's newest and most impressive building, Devere Hall, Aras Na Mac Leinn. With ever increasing numbers over the last few years, the con has spread from its main building to include a number of large buildings on campus
